This project will be helping students who are first generation Americans or recent immigrants from Spanish speaking countries. They and their parents come from El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras and Mexico. While some of my students could use Introduction to Spanish as an opportunity to goof-off, they take pride in doing well and going above and beyond in projects, helping their classmates and sharing their personal experience. They gently let me know if I've made a grammatical error, quickly help me remember vocabulary, and always gladly help their classmates when asked. I am grateful to have them, but want Spanish to be a significant learning experience for them as well. In conducting formative tests, I noticed that my native speakers struggled most in reading and writing in Spanish, two skills they don't often practice at home.
