Our library strives to curate a diverse collection. We purposely seek books to represent a multitude of cultures, religions, ethnic groups, and orientations. Tananarive Due, author and American Book Award winner, said “'diversity’ should just be called 'reality.’ Your books, your TV shows, your movies, your articles, your curricula, need to reflect reality.” We librarians research new releases and authors to provide our students with a variety of up to date literature that reflect reality. All of our students deserve to see themselves represented on the page; moreover, all students can learn and grow by reading about others. Funding this project will aid students to have access to more equitably representative books. Students will be able to utilize the collection for independent reading choices for class, for research and projects, or just to read for enjoyment purposes. The goal is to have a variety of literature representing a variety in society. With the current economic situation, our budget has been greatly cut. We still wish to provide our students with the best collections possible; however, it will be more difficult this academic year. This is why we are asking for support in continuing to provide current and diverse/realistic literature for our students. Thank you.
