Making the transition from elementary to middle school can be tough. While there are so many things that my students feel they can't control in the often tumultuous middle school years, their education shouldn't be one of them. Recently, I implemented flexible seating in my 6th grade Language Arts Classroom and it was a game changer. By giving my students choice over where they want to access their learning, they have realized that they do, in fact, have control over their own education. Currently, my students will sit anywhere- the floor, under desks, or under tables. When they are allowed to find a space where they can be comfortable to work, they are more engaged and excited about learning! Right now, a saucer chair I picked up at a garage sale is an overwhelming favorite. The products I have requested are intended to continue to transform the culture of my classroom. All of my 6th grade students- whose needs vary greatly- have all benefited from flexible seating. By giving students an even more comfortable space to read, write, and think, I am hoping that they realize that their education is something that they can control- and no one can take that away from them.
