My students attend a Title I school. Many of them come from families that want better for their children than they had, but cannot afford it. They need our help! My students are happy, healthy, and resilient young learners that love to learn! They have recently realized the importance of books and sound out words based on letter sounds. They are determined to read! Visitors to my class compliment my students on their love for learning and especially their manners! Other teachers are amazed when they see my students setting a school standard walking through the hallway "Hips and Lips". The love to give hugs and are so humble. They understand what "reputation" means and they are determined to have a great reputation with anyone they meet. Very recently, many of my students have said, "maybe if we are good Mrs. Spillman, Santa will bring us a new carpet!" This brings tears to my eyes as I reply, "You are always good boys and girls, and remember how many students don't have a carpet."
