Literature and understanding text is one of the most important aspects of a child's educational career. Without understanding or being able to read text, where would you be? My students live this reality every day. My students attend a Title I school in an low economic neighborhood where lots of students are considered disadvantaged. Many of my 1st graders are eager to read but many of the books are too challenging. I want them to be able to enjoy reading without thinking that the book is too hard. They are a very energetic bunch and I want them to put that energy towards something meaningful rather than avoiding reading.
