My third graders would really benefit from 4 bean bag chairs and 5 stack stools. The bean bags could be used throughout the room, and they would allow the students to move them to different places while using a clipboard or reading a book. They are light enough for the students to move themselves, and they are big enough so that they could sit alone or with a partner. The stools would be used mainly at the student computers, but allow flexibility for other locations since they are light in weight. They could be used while sitting at the small group meeting table or at their desks in place of the regular student chair. These chairs allow for constant movement and stimulation without disturbing others. The freedom of movement would help keep them focused and on task very easily. If students are given the freedom to choose where to sit while they work, the engagement and learning levels will increase exponentially. They get excited when I allow them to choose where they sit, because they get to have a say in how they learn. It makes them feel valued and important. Further, the overall look of all the available seating choices helps the room to appear more open and welcoming. This is especially helpful to newcomers that transfer to our school in the middle of the year. My 3rd graders and I greatly appreciate your generosity!
