Our students struggle most with reading and writing, which ties into their listening and speaking. They lack the foundational knowledge to become proficient readers and writers. So much of our speech/language therapy is now focused on both phonemic and phonological awareness skills, skills that are crucial in helping them to be able to read and write better. We work on rhyming, syllable counting, phoneme blending, phoneme segmenting, short and long vowel sounds, and manipulating phonemes to create new words. These materials will allow us to give our low income students access to fun and exciting activities that will make them want to learn and become more confident, while at the same time, improving their decoding and spelling skills!
