Research has shown that movement enhances brain functions. Movement gets the blood pumping and oxygen to the brain. Both of these attributes positively enhance learning.
In my classroom, I have flexible seating options for some of my students but I'd like to offer it to ALL my students. Flexible seating, while not traditional, has become a way of teaching that I have embraced as a first year teacher. I jumped into this feet first after doing my research on it.
My classroom is set up so the students have a choice in where they learn and how they learn. We have established expectations and procedures for their use (they created them) and they own this responsibility. If you were to walk into my classroom, you would see some students on the floor in rockers and lap desks, some bouncing on stability balls, some wobbling on wobble stools, and some sitting on pillows. They may be sitting or standing in different ways but they are ALL learning, on task, and engaged.
I funded my class set up on my own as a first year teacher so I was only able to buy so much. I'd like to make sure that every one of my students has a flexible seating option in order to be the best scholars they can. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my classroom and our request.
