My 6th grade classes are full of amazing students! We are working to become not only better readers, because reading is awesome, but because we know that it will help us be successful in all other subjects and in life. The two classes (one in the morning and one after lunch) are beautifully filled with 50% students of color. 20% of students are on IEP's for a variety of learning, communication and behavioral needs. 50% of student in the class are reading below or far below grade level, and many struggle with attention. We are a title one school with 65% free and reduced lunches, and that economic impact is felt in the classroom from access to resources at home to trauma associated with poverty. 100% of student in these two classes are capable, curious and eager to be successful in life. I look forward to building on each student strengths this year to continue to ignite a passion for learning.
