Many of my eighth graders and I are working towards making our school library a place that middle school students will use and enjoy. Currently, our library is filled with out of date books that hold little appeal to our kids. Our students do not even use it to check out books to read. Our goal is to completely overhaul our library. Our first step is to obtain books that are of high interest to the kids of Somerton. As we begin to build our inventory, we are hoping to completely overhaul the furniture and look of the library. My personal goal is to open the library as an after school tutoring/personal growth/mentoring center to the many kids of Somerton who are in need of both additional academic support and, more importantly, who need to be surrounded with positive role models and have the opportunity to engage in fulfilling experiences.
