Teaching my third grade students to love science is a passion of mine. Instead of reading articles from a textbook, I want my students to learn mostly through hands-on experience. It would be wonderful to have a class microscope with an LCD screen (to help those little eyes)and a set of handheld microscopes (for field study) to make science come alive! I want to enhance teachable moments, making my students' scientific studies linger in their brain long after school. I want them to experience science not just as a school subject, but as a study of wonder, a study of why, a study of how. When a student finds a leftover cocoon or an interesting leaf in our school garden, a cool rock on the playground, or explore the fibers of their t-shirt, I would love to give them an opportunity to see it under a microscope. Seeing things microscopically will provide my students with a visual adventure of what our world is made of!
