Students learn better when they are engaged, and having fun. I have chosen activities and materials based on why my students need to know in their fourth grade year, and what will benefit them the most for the rest of their lives. The Greek and Latin Roots activities will help students understand the meaning of word roots, and thus help them understand words they have never seen before. These vocabulary games and activities will help increase engagement, and build their vocabulary skills. I have also selected vocabulary activities that will help teach students “tricky” words and phrases that can be hard to understand when English is your second language. These materials will allow my students to see, read, and use words that they otherwise may never be exposed to. A robust vocabulary is an essential tool in today’s ever advancing world. An increased vocabulary will help afford my students opportunities that they may not have ever thought possible. I strongly believe that every student can learn, and every student deserves the opportunity to realize their potential. Vocabulary may just be one step on the road to success, but it isn’t a step we should skip.
