The volleyballs and volleyball carts are used by all students at our Middle School during physical education class. The 7th and 8th grade girls volleyball teams also use these items, so they get worn out from natural wear and tear. One of our carts is ripped in two places and needs to be replaced. Being a part of the volleyball team gives the girls the opportunity to be a part of a group where they can make friends, which in turn builds the community at our school. They learn responsibility, communication, trust, accepting mistakes, and it also fosters relationships and holds them accountable to others. Some of the girls just want to be accepted and a part of something, and the volleyball team is the perfect place for them. All of the skills that we teach transfer into the real world making our Oshkosh community a stronger, better place. Having more volleyballs for the girls to use and having enough for every member of the team would impact how we teach, how we practice, and would increase overall morale of the team. We could also do more team building activities in which the girls would build better relationships with each other and with the 4 coaches, including myself. This is also true for physical education classes as well.
