In a normal school year, it is common to ask students to speak a little louder so the class (and myself!) can hear what they are saying. This year, some students wear masks to school due to Covid-19. The students are having difficulty projecting their voices while wearing masks, and we are having a hard time hearing each other.
My students love to talk and want to be heard. They also need to be able to listen to online programs they can learn from. Since they are active, they need listening and hearing tools to help them be successful in 5th grade.
The solution is the Qball and sturdy headphones. A Qball is a wireless microphone inside a foam ball that students can speak into and throw to the next speaker. Being able to hear each other during whole group instruction and being able to listen during independent computer time would be such a game-changer! Students would be able to hear questions that are being asked, which would help them with their own understanding. My students love shared reading, but it has been difficult for students to follow along if they cannot hear where the students are in the story. They would have so much fun reading into the Qball and throwing it to the next reader. It would truly keep them engaged because they love sports.
The Qball and headphones would be a great resource in our classroom this year, and for many years to come.
