In the music classroom, playing a musical instrument is one of the best ways students can learn. It allows them to experience music and can appeal to all learners: aural, kinesthetic, and visual. It is also enjoyable for students to play music while giving them an opportunity to create something of their own. The more time a student has on an instrument, the more time he/she has to experience learning the music with a hands-on approach. Playing the xylophone, also known as orffs, will give students the opportunity to learn a multitude of musical elements all at once. The more time the students have playing the orffs, the more time students have to achieve mastery of rhythm, melody, harmony, improvisation, and expression. As famously stated by Orff Schulwerk, “Tell me, I forget, show me, I remember, involve me, I understand.”
