I have a wide range of academic abilities within my classrooms. I have students with special needs working alongside students that are gifted and others that fall in between. The great thing is that they all want to be challenged and they look forward to our hands on projects. I love it when we start a project and many of the students don't see themselves completing the task and say how it's impossible. Then, to see the same student overcome with a sense of pride and accomplishment when they completed the task. To me this is what teaching is all about. I feel that our school is very academic driven. Our teacher's strive hard to challenge and engage our students. The students are very competitive and want to succeed. What we lack is the resources and funding to complete engaging projects/activities that give the students real life experience.
