Mervyn M Dymally is located in the Green Meadows neighborhood of South Los Angeles. It is a low income community impacted by poverty and crime. My students face many challenges outside of the classroom but they show up everyday ready and willing to engage in learning activities. The theme of our classroom is 'When you can't see the Sun,Be the Sun'. I challenge my scholars to show up daily with an attitude to win and a mindset to grow. Is it easy, no but is it worth it, yes...wholeheartedly YES! I teach seniors, my charge is to make sure they are ready to be productive and active citizens of our global community. I ask them to believe, dream, imagine and READ. My goal is to have a classroom with books so rich, diverse and relatable that my scholars can't wait to read them. I want to expose them to the benefits of reading, not for grades but for knowledge gained. When I say Dymally...You Say Scholars... Dymally!
