My students deal with poverty, violence, drugs and gang related issues on a daily basis. School is their place to be safe as well as where they are working diligently to provide a better future for themselves and their families. As a charter school in an impoverished community, we get very little state and federal funding. We are currently operating with no budget for basic school supplies such as pencils, notebooks and lined paper. To make matters worse, our only functioning pencil sharpener just broke! We make the most out of the resources that we have, but its just not enough.
