When I introduce a book to a student, I try to make it exciting enough for them to want to read it. By receiving new books, I will have more of a variety to choose from and these books will be what the students are interested in reading. My students do not have libraries or a selection of books to read at home. They are required to read at least 5 books at home everyday. With these books, they will have more books to place into their book bags. On the following day, they are to read 3 familiar books to me as a way to practice and for me to provide support at point of error or difficulty. When children get the opportunity to read often, these reading behaviors come under control and they begin to feel like they are successful readers and when their confidence level rises, they become good readers.
