“I have no doubt that the survival of the human race depends at least as much on the cultivation of social and emotional intelligence, as it does on the development of the technical knowledge and skills. Most educators believe that the development of the whole child is an essential responsibility of schools, and this belief is what has motivated them to enter the profession.” L Darling-Hammond
Developing stronger social and emotional skills improves the academic performance of students. Students have fewer behavioral problems. Those students that are engaged in self are less aggressive and disruptive in schools. Less emotional distress results in positive social behavior.
Creating kindness rocks exposes the students to positive affirmations for themselves and others. Some days life is all about survival for these children. The kindness rocks that are hidden around the building will fill the students with hope. Tomorrow is a brand, new day. This project will increase their own self worth by giving to others. Watching others find an encouraging rock gives everyone a great, big, wonderful smile.
Have you heard kindness is contagious? Pass it on... Paint it forward... Create kindness, light the way for others... Be a good friend, smile, be generous, be helpful, be polite... Life lessons for all.
