I am a teacher of English Language Learners who come from diverse backgrounds and often difficult situations. Many families are in need of books to ensure successful early language and literacy development. My reading therapy dog Rosie and I give literacy presentations to preschool parents stressing the importance of reading early and often. We model shared and guided reading strategies in a fun way to motivate parents to read at home. We are in need of a wide variety of books which promote language and literacy development: phonemic awareness, phonics, rhyming, and alphabet recognition. Multicultural and bilingual books are also a great way to share student cultures and languages from around the world and ensure all students are valued. These fun and diverse books will be checked out by students in take-home bags for families to enjoy reading with their child. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!"
