I work with over 80 students with special needs in a large school district with many low income households. When our school closed due to the pandemic we quickly had to move to online schooling with little time to prepare or order necessary materials. My students have a wide range of diagnoses, disabilities and capabilities and they need to work on their motor and functional skills at home during this time. I plan to create a tool kit for my students that includes manipulatives to work on fine motor skills, blocks and puzzles to work on visual motor and perceptual skills, play dough and fidgets for sensory skills, and basic school tools like short pencils, crayons, glue sticks, paper and adapted scissors. These are some of the things that we typically used in therapy but many lack these tools or materials needed to effectively address their goals. School may end in June but these students continue with a summer program. These items will help them work on the skills and participate in therapeutic activities at home now, as well as the summer. Help my special students keep up with their therapy during these tough times!
