My students are in my classroom most of the day, so it needs to be an inviting learning environment. The fluorescent light covers cozy shades for the fluorescent lights will reduce both the glare of the naked bulbs and the flicker that my students with special needs may be distracted by.
My students need to be able to work where they can be most successful. If that means sitting on the floor or in an alternative seating arrangement, then that is where they should be. Currently, they must use a clipboard if on the floor, which usually leads to lying on their tummies. Oftentimes, they end up getting tired and lose focus of their work. The wonderful lap desks I have asked for will allow them to sit on the floor in an upright position, without having to bend over their work, or lie down. This will be useful for taking notes while watching educational videos as well.
Hurricane Harvey had a huge impact on our community last year, displacing many of our residents. When students were able to return to school, it was a place of safety and familiarity to them. I want my classroom to reflect those feelings for my students.
