The materials I requested will help meet the needs of my special education students and provide them with meaningful, authentic STEM learning opportunities.
The donations given to this project will help supply my students with materials that will foster their growth in self-management, meet their sensory needs, and provide engaging STEM learning experiences.
The visual timers will give my students the support they need to independently manage the timing of their tasks and breaks throughout the day.
The weighted blanket will provide proprioceptive input for my students who have sensory needs. Many of my students seek this input as a way to deal with frustration. The opportunity to take a break with a weighted blanket will provide my students with an appropriate choice for managing frustration and help to foster their growth in self-regulation.
Recently, my students had the opportunity to experience coding with a Dash Dot robot that was loaned to us. It was truly amazing to see my students so focused and engaged. They were having so much fun they did not realize they were learning. The Dash Dot is much more than a STEM tool. It can be integrated into any subject, and I know it will enhance my students' learning across the curriculum through authentic learning experiences.
