I teach 21 first grade students. My students are very eager to learn about anything and everything! My students read and learn differently and on different levels. We do not have textbooks so I research, find, or borrow activities that help with, not only teaching skills, but for differentiating them as well. I also have to make sure students have school supplies, but most of them come to school with nothing. I also try to find and provide books for their different reading levels. My students come from a high poverty level community and do not get much help or support at home. Our district is a failing school district and is considered a critical needs area due to shortage of teachers. ALL students, yes 100%, receive free breakfast and lunch. When I see my students arrive every morning, I know I must give it my all, to help them learn and reach their potential, for school may be their only saving grace.
