STEM activities are the perfect way to build on the natural curiosities of children and invite them to explore, discover and problem-solve through play. Creation, exploration and engineering are an inherent part of young learning. I want to encourage my students to explore and engineer through play using different materials, while communicating with their peers about their designs and problem solving with their peers on how to combine materials to build stronger and bigger structures. Being hands on is especially important for kinesthetic learners. Hands-on learning can also help students retain information. It is so important to work beyond worksheets and bring in as many materials as possible. Students will experiment through trial and error and learn from their mistakes. The more opportunities I can give to the students for hands-on learning the more they will enjoy coming to school.
