Year after year, I find the most rewarding feeling to be is when former students come to my classroom with big smiles and hugs. Because of the respect and love they were given, they never forget those feelings and they want to have a continued connection with me. It is heart-warming to know these students return to their second grade teacher to share important milestones, or even to say "I wish I was still in your class!" I also am rewarded to see my students' sense of inquiry, their creativeness, and fearlessness. Each day brings new wonders and amazements when it comes to teaching. My students are always asking questions that are not found in textbooks. I am thrilled when they think "outside the box." Working with elementary school students has the best rewards! By using active learning strategies students learn best when they are engaged. There is no "sit and get". All learners are actively engaged and having fun.
