My students have a wide range of skills for which I have to differentiate every day. Regardless of their skill level, they demand to be engaged and challenged. In order to truly make the most of my students’ time in school, each student needs to be challenged at his or her level. This is the role technology has in the life of 21st century learners. “In order to create an engaging learning experience, the role of instructor is optional, but the role of learner is essential.” - Bernard Bull The Chromebooks will serve as a permanent station in my blended learning model. Advanced students will be able to deepen their learning with online projects and interactive lessons. Struggling students will have a chance to support their learning with additional practice in Reading and Math. The best part is that because I teach all subjects, the Chromebooks will add to every subject. In Science, we will do virtual experiments, complete Stem Scopes projects and do research. In Social Studies, we can explore the lives of historical figures and create presentations. In Reading, through digital libraries, we can practice reading, track comprehension and challenge students at their reading level. In Math, they will have access to virtual lessons, which will allow students master math facts, and go beyond grade level content if they are ready. These five Chromebooks are my first step in my quest for a technology-rich classroom. Over time, my goal is to have a 50/50 blended learning model to continue to push these students beyond the limits imposed by their low socioeconomic situations.
