Our school is opening their very first sensory room. The goal of this room to provide all students, especially our diverse learners, a place where we can help to settle their sensory cravings so they may engage in the most optimal learning experiences. Body socks and weighted items provide deep pressure to the entire body, which helps to calm and assist the child in becoming more regulated. Gymnastic mats and floor scooters will help provide the proprioceptive input that helps calm a restless body. Our staff is envisioning this special place as an area where children can go when they become overly stimulated or disregulated. As you can imagine, learning is almost impossible when we are cannot focus or calm our minds and bodies.
