My room is full of eager kindergarten students. Half of them are native Spanish speakers and the other half are learning Spanish for the first time in our dual language program. They come from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds and are learning a lot from each other and developing cultural appreciation by learning together every day. We are a neighborhood public school with students traveling to our school from 12 different neighboring schools. Some students walk to school and some students drive different corners of our area. The Spanish speaking students are very helpful to their English speaking peers in translating and explaining tasks that are given exclusively in Spanish. There is tremendous community and a daily celebration of our diversity.
