I have never heard a student say “When I grow up I want to fail at life” However many of our students are not learning the social and emotional skills to guide them to a life of positive self-management, unshakeable self-determination, and self-efficacy. My students live, learn, and play in conditions that are constantly challenging their ability to survive and thrive. If left unguided most students in these circumstances will not develop the perseverance needed to choose the life of success they desire. The SOAR Study Skills book allows our students to practice and develop a growth mindset through true goal setting activities. Our students need opportunities to experience success and “failure” in a safe environment where they can be coached through these experiences by caring teachers. With this resource they will be allowed to reflect on their natural abilities and learn how to develop talent through effort. They will explore how to set priorities, develop goals and action plans and organize their lives in a manner that supports these goals. We want our students to see all obstacles as a great opportunity for growth and look forward to the journey more than the destination. By funding this project you will give our students a chance to develop intrinsic motivation and self-determination. These are skills they need now and for the rest of their lives
