My students are strong, inspiring, dedicated young adults who bring me incredible amounts of joy on a daily basis. The school my students attend is Title 1, with an overwhelming amount of my students on a free or reduced lunch program, which is based on household income levels. My students come from a tough, low socio-economic area, but they do not let that define them and their resilience is nothing short of inspiring. I am working hard with my students to help re-build the band program at my school. I took on the challenge knowing that I wanted to create a positive environment where students felt safe and loved; that they could be themselves and grow not just as musicians, but as people as well. We have come a long way in the few years I have been at this school, and we still have room to grow, but we embrace this challenge with excitement and pride in everything we do.
