When engaged in learning and the completion of school work, the ability to move to a different space can allow more freedom and comfortability for students. Unfortunately, the chairs and desks are attached and extremely uncomfortable, especially considering my class periods are 90 minutes! I have found allowing small groups to congregate in the hallways and common areas provide more space between students, leading to quieter and more productive work spaces, as well as practicing independence. However, students do not have comfortable seating arrangements in this setting, leading to students sitting in uncomfortable positions, hindering meaningful work.
