"Mentor Sentences are well-written sentences that show off author's craft from books we are reading in the classroom. They are chosen based on style, language, grammar, and mechanics." On Monday, our class will read the book that correlates with our week. Then we will look at our sentence for the week and what we notice about it. On Tuesday, students observe how parts of speech work together. We also focus on the 'skill' that is being taught for the week. On Wednesday, students work on revising the mentor sentence. Students also revise their own writing they are working on in class. On Thursday, students focus on applying specific skills in their writing. With the addition of more picture books to use with our mentor sentences, the students will not only improve in grammar, but in writing as well.
