My students are well versed in every day technology such as cell phones and tablets, a computer and its basic office applications are a different matter entirely. Using the fourteen Hisense Chromebooks in class will offer an inexpensive and space saving way to not only increase student engagement but develop real world skills as well. I believe students need to be taught the proper use of technology so that once they are ready to fly away from their teachers they have the skills for the jobs of the future. While my students do have access to a small amount of Chromebooks in class, it is very difficult to give all students a sound lesson with only five Chromebooks per class of at least twenty-five students. The students I teach are from a low economic area which means the only time they will receive instruction in keyboarding and coding will be in the classroom. My goal is to not only teach and engage students in science but simultaneously incorporate computer and organizational skills while they learn. Students deserve to be offered opportunities for alternative ways of learning using Googledocs and specific apps for math, science and reading. Bringing technology into the classroom will not only educated them for the year but for careers that don’t exist yet.
