A classroom library is not something usually seen in a 5th grade science/social studies classroom. I feel like if students are provided an opportunity to read outside of their English Language Arts classroom they will become lifelong readers. This is especially important with the intense emphasis of technology present today in their lives. There are two different types of books I have requested for my classroom library. The first being books relating to important people in history and science and the second being books that help teach students the importance and value of being different. Throughout the year we will be reading the young readers' edition of the book HIDDEN FIGURES by Jan Carr. Other books that I am requesting include the series "A Wrinkle in Time" by Katherine Olney, "I am Malala" by Mary Eisenhart, "El Deafo" by Michael Berry. Each of these books emphasizes differences and obstacles that young people have faced. My hopes for this library is that students find someone or something to relate to.
