My students are mostly from low-income families whose educational background consist of a high school diploma. Many of them opt for vocational, non-college degree programs to start their lives after high school. Most of my students' Lexile reading level start as beginners who shy away from reading our prescribed textbooks. These textbooks are necessities, but are overwhelming to a lot my students.
