During the pandemic, I have provided speech-language therapy to students daily through a live video platform, and it has been a challenge for myself and my students. Over my 15 years as a NYC Speech-Language Therapist, I have gathered and purchased a great array of materials for my students to help reach their individual goals, and now unfortunately, these materials are no longer able to be utilized, as they were made ideally for in-person sessions. During last school year’s remote learning, I had spent much time and energy working to find interactive and engaging digital worksheets, websites and games that wouldn’t ‘break the bank’, however it had became harder as the months went on. Doing in-person sessions, I can easily offer my students many hands-on activities to allow them to have fun while achieving their goals, however with the switch to remote learning; since I can not be next to the student(s) to grab their attention as easily with the distractions of their home environments, offering them a variety of fun and engaging digital materials is the next best thing. With the citywide budget cuts, teachers/therapists are not being given Teachers Choice money this year for supplies and materials, so with your help to obtain Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards, I can create a new ‘toolbox’ of materials that can be utilized for teletherapy, and start the new school year off right!
