My amazing students are in desperate need of age-appropriate literature that both challenges and inspires them to envision their lives and future beyond their immediate impoverished rural area. With a classroom set of novels, each student will be able to read the material, follow along with the audiobook for those that need assistance, and reference the physical book as they analyze, synthesize, and grow their knowledge through rigorous scaffolding assignments. There is something miraculous that takes place when students have physical books, can turn page by page on a journey of self-discovery and ability. Students will have more confidence if they have books and materials needed to focus solely on learning. Students will be able to use the novels to locate textual evidence, make inferences as they focus on analytical, reading, and writing skills. Students should not have to worry if they will have the resources they need to further their education because of their family’s economic circumstances.
