Low income, Title 1, high ESL. Our biggest challenge is to feed them. First, food to still that hunger in their bellies and then knowledge, to feed that life long hunger to achieve. If this hunger is not fed by us, it will be fed by the gangs, crime, and idle minds of corruption. I'm not saying all of our kids will fall victim to crime and poverty, but I'm saying they have the potential if not directed in the right direction to be led astray. Each day I watch the tagging of walls and electric boxes as it grows in our community and I know so does the gang influence. Our kids are hungry for a way out and if we don't give it to them the other team will. Oh! Yeah, we're in a game, but the players don't use balls or a court. They use the streets and the prospect of easy money. We have to use what we have, "knowledge." We have to equip our kids with the ability to play the game of life and win against all odds.
