Every student yearns to put their hands on a percussion instrument. Unfortunately we do not have enough instruments to supply each student with a type of drum. It has been found that being able to keep a steady beat and read rhythms translates into better reading scores and comprehension. Playing drums is not only important for creating a foundation for a particular song, but enhances children's abilities to read. Our students walk to the beat of their own drum. Many students have been asking to participate in a percussion ensemble but we simply do not have enough instruments. With the successful funding of this project, the students of Sam Houston will have ample opportunities to perform for their school and community.
