Whoever said teaching was easy lied. I have had my most challenging and tear-filled memories as an educator. This profession tests your patience, increases your stress levels, and alters your sleep patterns. Curriculum is rarely stable and state tests change. Every year, there is another educational buzz word floating around that you have to learn. Teachers, you know what I mean. Some may ask, "Well, why teach then?" I answer with this: I teach because of the impact of my former teachers; I teach because of the injustice in the education system; I teach because of the inspiration I can instill in our future children. Above all, I teach in rural Louisiana where segregation still exists and most of my students come from low income families because they deserve the opportunity to flourish and feel successful in this world. This triumphs over any difficulty I may face as their teacher.
