Change classroom photo
Kindergarten sets the tone for how children will feel about school for years to come. Five-year-olds need to be able to move around and engage in learning with their whole bodies, which is why flexible seating has caused such a dynamic change in my room. At the end of the year, I did away with assigned seats and decided to take a huge chance and allow them to sit wherever they wanted for different activities. Allowing the children to pick their own seats created an amazing change in their behavior and attention! So this year, I would love to take it a step further. I want to provide flexible seating for my students starting the First Day. I want to provide bouncy straps for their chair legs. I want our class to have bouncy balls to sit on while they are working. Clipboards will allow them to lay on their bellies and work on the carpet. Book bins will allow them to take their reading books around the classroom with them to read. I want them to self-regulate their emotions as they move and work around the room. The TeePee will allow them to build that self-regulation and responsibility for themselves. I want my students to independently transition from different activities while staying calm and quiet. The wireless doorbell will do just that as I can adjust the tones based on our daily needs and activities. Please help me give them the freedom to learn while actively engaging their whole bodies!
