Young readers really do judge a book by it's cover! They often have trouble finding books that interest them. Currently, our library is arranged in the traditional way with of spine-out. That system is difficult for beginning readers to select their books. We would like to use bins to display the books face-out in attractive and colorful bins, and arrange them by topics, series, and popular authors. Arranging the library books in this way will also enable students to become independent library users. Responsibility and Organization! The smaller book bins will help students keep the books they select neat and organized at their desks. Currently they are keeping their selected books in their folders, but many have ripped the pockets or have books to large to fit in the pockets at all. Having to maintain order in their own book bin will also help teach my 1st graders responsibility and accountability for themselves, as well as their actions.
