Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work, group work, or stations, they choose a location in the classroom that works best for them. In our classroom, we have wobble chairs, yoga ball chairs, lap trays, saucer chairs, and stools that are available for them to choose from. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating, and it gives them that sense of responsibility and ownership over their actions and their learning. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices and will provide them with hands-on, engaging math activities. The wobble cushions will allow students to sit at the carpet area or at a low desk, while still allowing them movement to get those wiggles out. They can also be used on a stool if they wanted to sit at a higher table. The comfy floor seats will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom. The Math Station bundle will allow students to master place value, operations, fractions and more, with skill-building activity stations that let them work at their own pace! It has 6 stations with 4 activities in each one with hands-on materials for each activity and step-by-step instructions. Choice positively affects my students’ work and their demeanor. The additional seating options, and the Math Activity Stations will extremely benefit 80+ students in a 2nd grade Math class from a Title I school.
