Movement has been shown to boost focus and attention. Therefore, I have requested the following items to increase the opportunities for my students to wiggle and fidget while in the classroom. I have also asked for a weighted lap pad because deep pressure has been shown to increase focus and create a sense of calm. Overall, the goal is that the items requested will help students to be less distracted, less bored, and more focused! Another goal of this project is to foster student independence. These items are things the kids in my room can use without the help of an adult. They can begin understanding the different tools available that may be beneficial to them. Once a student has found something that helps them, they will be able to use it in a variety of settings to ensure their needs are being met no matter where they are in the school building.
