These supplies are to help the students in the project-based learning we do in the classroom. The paper, markers, and other art supplies are so students can do hands on work with the English language and engage all their different learning styles. I usually do projects that require students to create visual renditions of the stories they are reading along with writing about it. The post-it pad allows the students to do discussions and four-corner activities to build their critical thinking skills. The students will use the different file folders to create year-long portfolios and keep track of their data and learning.
All of these supplies will make a difference to the students because they will not have to worry about not having enough.
Many times in the past, students have had to buy their own supplies for projects. It made them feel like their project wasn't good enough because it didn't have the cool colors or money some students put into their work. They didn't realize that the learning was more important and they got the better score for the actual work they did. These supplies will allow me to give all the students an equal footing because they will all use the same supplies.
