Three out of four days a week, each of my preschoolers with autism are given the opportunity to complete three work baskets. Why? Most young children with autism do not have the desire or attention span to complete an activity. So, daily, we have each student with autism complete three work baskets each. In the work baskets, there are a variety of activities including fine motor activities, sorting games, matching, letter games, sorting activities and puzzles. With some of the activities, the student is able to complete independently and with other activities, there is more of a challenge. My specialized classroom can consist of six to nine preschoolers with autism. Therefore, a variety of activities and games are needed for the work baskets so that the students do not become tired of the same activities. My specialized classroom students are in need of more activities/games to enhance their work basket systems.
