I want to transform my classroom to ensure students in my room have the opportunity to practice and reform their problem solving skills in an informal learning environment. Having a flexible learning time each day will ease students into their daily routine without their typical “school work” agenda. How exciting would it be for a child to come in and get to select their very own style of seat for the day? Would it be a wobble stool, a regular seat, Wippsider, or maybe even they choose to stand at a raised desk for part of the day? Having a variety of board games would afford students the chance to communicate with their peers along with enhancing their critical thinking skills. Promoting communication and teaching students how to problem solve with peers would decrease the amount of discipline issues that occur within the classroom setting. Students will carry the skills they have practiced in the flexible learning stations to real life situations that they encounter outside the classroom setting. We will reflect and discuss learning from the stations during our daily Morning Meeting time. Students will benefit from having a choice of these carefully selected seats and games by enriching their problem solving and critical thinking skills all while collaborating with their peers and teacher.
