Using their tablets, my students will be able to research individuals that changed America for the better. These individuals, known as muckrakers, a title given to them by President Teddy Roosevelt, were reporters, authors, and photographers who brought to light the awful living and working conditions of the poor. The contributions of these individuals are immeasurable, and my students will benefit greatly from getting to know them. My students will be able to use their research to put together an autobiographical scrapbook of these individuals and their contributions to making lasting change in America. This project will help my students appreciate the contributions made by these courageous men and women and how it affects their lives today. Clean water, food safety, and government regulations for safety in the workplace are just a few of the things influenced by muckrakers and enjoyed by Americans today.
